At the end of this month, we shall see the completion of another Rotary Year…and what would be the end of our 15 years as Editor-in Chief of PRM. But no…not yet! Chairman Tony Quila said he wanted us all together in what will be the new set-up next year, with him as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PRM Foundation and we as head of the Editorial Board at PRM. And so…back to memory lane …
To start with…way back in the 70s – the leadership decided to apply for authority to come out with our own Regional Magazine…and after a while, this was finally approved and PRM was born with PDG Jun Tambunting as the first Editor-in-Chief. To our knowledge, PRM was left on its own – to struggle and flounder to keep alive – with no start-up capital and periodically aided by friends willing to help. He was followed by the late PDG Pepot Barredo and PDG Herman Gamboa, who tried hard to keep the magazine going…until we happened to drop by the organizational meeting of the PCRG Board under then PDG Ric Chua Tiong Bio, and together with the strong-willed secretary PDG Pros Crescini, we were taken as the new Editor-in-Chief. It was supposed to be for one year…and we submitted our Courtesy Resignation every following year and what followed was 15 years of re-appointment!
We started in 1995-96 in the negative – we had to pay over one million in old obligations to unpaid salaries, printers, etc…we had less than 3,000 subscriptions…no ads to speak of…no materials for publication, no adequate equipment, no organization. We had only PDS Rudy Alonso, an old friend as Circulation Manager. We got PDGs Sonny Ventura, Johnny Aruego and Lindy Garcia, OLD Jaycee friends, to join us…and later we were joined by volunteers, who were willing to work with us without material reward…we got PDG Oca Inocentes, also an old Jaycee friend…PDG Lina Aurelio to attract ads, and PDG Efren de Guzman…Associate Editors PP Ed Trinidad and PVP Bob Autor…more old friends, PDGs Boy Valle and Felix Domigpe, and later DG Chit Lijauco as our only professional adviser…and, of course, the “little one” – Reb Trinidad, to put our work together.
We updated the issuance of the magazine on our first year…we actually visited clubs anywhere, invited to “sell” the magazine…we are now at 15,000…with over 1,600 lifetime subscriptions…and we have enough money in deposit to insure the publication’s life for many years to come…We may now look forward to “riding into the sunset” and say “we have done it!”
We thank DG Sid and his district for their support in sponsoring this issue and making sure this will get to the RI Convention in Montreal…

Yours in Rotary,
