Growth is the manifestation of life…and, therefore…“when you stop growing…you start to die!” Aware of this, Rotary is ever relentless in working for growth – from the original four friends to more than 1.2 million in over 100 years – but there is need for still more. Problems expand…needs continue to grow…we must also grow and expand to keep on helping and serving. Let us never forget – August is Membership and Development Month!
We have just returned from the Rotary World Magazine Press Seminar/conference in Montreal (Canada) where we always enjoy the company of our fellow editors from all over the Rotary world. It was also a rare privilege to experience the inspiring presence of the R.I. President in our small group composed of only the editors and a few others involved in the Rotary World Magazine Press. As usual, we had a meaningful dialogue with R.I. President John Kenny…this time with the Chairmen of our respective Editorial Boards (PDG Sonny Ventura, who presides over our monthly board meetings, was there).
We pause to mourn the passing of our dearly departed President Cory Aquino, who presided over our country’s difficult transition back to democracy. Ever the religious woman…maybe she does not our prayers…but we do – for our country and people she loved and served so well. We also pray for the repose of the soul of PDG Raoul Hilario, who was our generous host when we represented R.I. President Carlo Ravizza at the District 3860 Conference when he was the Governor.
Our previous call for Rotarian-volunteers to take over as Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine Rotary Magazine has not elicited any reaction. We do need somebody to take on the job. We are now on our 15th year…and it’s time to let go! It should not be as difficult a job now as it was 15 years ago when our financial condition was “negative”…PRM is now in the black with about 15 million pesos in the bank! (Please see our Help Wanted AD in the Bulletin Board)
Thank you so very much…and the best of wishes!
